What’s in a name?
An ‘ateljee’, Afrikaans for studio, is defined as an open design environment with lateral relationships as opposed to an archaic hierarchical approach to architectural office and project management. Not bound to historical top-down philosophy, all employees play to their strengths in a tight knit office, to the benefit of the client.
A studio is a space; a state that seeks creative solutions to all kinds of challenges.
The studio concept suggests a wider reach of various spheres of design, apart from the historically defined role of an architect. Many other design disciplines are closely related and offered by Ateljee, whether inclusive to a building design or as a stand-alone appointment. Design in itself is a mindset and way of life, and quite easily crosses the structural boundaries of functional job descriptions, and to this end Ateljee is interested in any form of design.

With work from home possibilities and a pressing economy all having effects on our lifestyle, and with various TV shows popularising tiny homes, is South Africa ready for this amazing phenomenon?
Mobile or stationary?
Are there some worthy local examples?
With 2 possible clients interested, these are all exciting questions we are asking ourselves (and you!).
